RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS

The use of combinations of electrolysis and punch removal for thinning of large grafts, plus micrografting to fill in the spaces around large grafts, can achieve considerable improvement in the patient's appearance in hair transplantation repair cases. In general, at least 2 sessions are necessary for effective repair. The patient, can of course, obtain additional grafts elsewhere on the scalp.

49 year-old pt. with Type IV male pattern baldness and prominent plugs placed years ago along his left hairline. Close-up of coarse grafts prior to repair.
After plugs have been thinned with electrolysis, micrografts are inserted into bald temporal region behind them. Results 6 months after first repair session on left hairline.
Hairline design prior to commencement of anterior micrografting, necessarily a little lower on the left. Results after plug repair and two anterior micrograft sessions.
Results after four micrografting sessions. Note dense hair in anterior crown. Final appearance of left hairline is natural, dense, and aesthetically pleasing following hair repair surgery plus corrective micrografting.

Perfection, of course, is never possible. The results from repair surgery generally will not equal those seen in the best outcomes with follicular grafting. In the best situations, however, the final result can approach those seen with all-micrograft sessions on a virgin scalp. Additionally, with diligence and effort, the quality of life can be improved in many instances for many patients.
